  1. I noted and learned from some comments from a post a couple of days ago (https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2017/10/what-types-of-planners-belong-on.html) how confusing differing terminology can be, specifically our different understanding of terms like planner, planning and organiser. It can catch us out. After registering for the upcoming Plannercon event in Brussels, for example, I was completely taken aback by the emphasis on decoration and bling. I was expecting a show about planning and planners - diary layouts, handling task lists, layouts and methodologies... the decoration and bling stuff I would have expected to see at a craft show. I suppose people who have been to the US versions knew what to expect, but as a Plannercon virgin, it was a surprise. I shall still be in Brussels and will try to go with the flow :-) , but it just goes to show - divided by a common language .....

    1. Graham - I’m with you! If you trawl back through Philofaxy, other blogs and videos, there used to be a lot more articles (including a few by me!) on time management, life balance and using our organisers as a tool to be better organised and plan our lives. There was also a more equal split between the sexes, whereas now, the paper world is overwhelmingly female dominated.

It’s great that people want to decorate their organisers/ planners with trinkets and coloured tapes and designs and this side of things has definitely come to the fore in the paper world, with digital tablets and phones increasingly being the tools for organising our lives.

To be fair, a lot of hard work has gone into PlannerCon Europe and there appears to be a balance of talks between organising and decoration.

I just couldn’t justify my time on “water colour floral decoration” and talks on “sparkle and shine” and “preparing for Christmas”. It just isn’t for me and I suspect - sadly - few men will attend. I hope it goes well though!
